Jackson Hole Opening 2016

Posted on: November 20th, 2016 by thcAdmin No Comments

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is opening on December 1st. The resort has been working hard to get it done! They were originally shooting for November 24th.

Mother Nature has been a bit stingy with the snow so far this season here in Teton County. October came on strong, with it being one of the wettest on record. November has warmed up considerably, with next to no precipitation.

As of November 16th, temperatures finally dropped, at least we can get snow from hoses. Consistently cold days have helped over the past week, with a little of the real deal falling as well.

Big thanks goes out to the snowmaking crew. Below is an image of the man made cloud enshrouding Apres Vous.

Chasing Ice

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort presents the first annual Eco Night featuring a screening of the documentary Chasing Ice at Walk Festival Hall tomorrow, Thursday, January 16th.

Chasing Ice is a story by environmental photographer James Balog, and a mission to change the tide of history by gathering undeniable evidence of our changing planet. Within months of that first trip to Iceland, the photographer conceived the boldest expedition of his life: The Extreme Ice Survey. With a band of young adventurers in tow, Balog began deploying revolutionary time-lapse cameras across the brutal Arctic to capture a multi-year record of the world’s changing glaciers.

There will also be a collective of local environmental nonprofits on hand providing information on their conservation efforts in Jackson Hole and how you can get involved.

Doors open at 5:30pm. $5 suggested donation.

Grand Targhee Resort Opening

Posted on: November 17th, 2013 by thcAdmin No Comments

The ski and snowboard season kicks off for Grand Targhee Resort opening on November 22, 2013.  Lift serviced slopes will once again grace our corner of Wyoming. The mountains surrounding Teton County have recently received over 12″ of snow above 9000′. Snow continues to fall, while weather for the week ahead looks like there is a good potential for some additional snowfall.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is due to open on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th. The snowmaking crews have been dealing with some slightly warmer than anticipated temperatures while trying to create some base at lower elevations.

Snow King has started firing up the snow guns when temperatures have been conducive. They are shooting for an early December opening.

The weekend’s snowfall drew a number of locals to Teton Pass to sample the goods. A few hearty souls even made some tracks in town on the King. The parking lot at the top of the Pass was especially full Sunday. There has been some recent avalanche activity around the area, so be safe exploring the backcountry.
