Jackson Hole Opening Day 2018

Posted on: November 18th, 2018 by thcAdmin No Comments

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is opening on November 26th. The resort has been working hard to get it done! We have had some great early season snowfall.

Late October and early November have seen some decent storm cycles. At elevation there is a good amount of snow. The backcountry has been providing nice turns and Grand Targhee Resort opened November 16th, providing some nice coverage and decent early season skin conditions.

With cold temperature the mountain resort has been able to blow ample amounts of snow to supplement the natural snowfall. Expanded snowmaking at the resort should enable the resort to provide far more terrain on opening day than is often available.

Snow King Mountain should be able to come on line as planned in the beginning of December.

Posted on: February 24th, 2018 by thcAdmin No Comments

March 2nd-4th

The Dick’s Ditch Banked Slalom is an exhilerating twist on the traditional slalom. Course inspection begins on Friday. The format for the race weekend will hold qualifiers on Saturday and “winner-takes-all” on Sunday.

Dick’s Ditch Classic utilizes a natural ditch which winds its way down most of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The race event utilizes the ravine which runs through the middle portion of the mountain. This “big mountain ditch” has huge banked walls with steep pitches and opportunities for plenty of air. The course’s natural terrain is “enhanced” with some manmade features providing an amazing venue for this ski and snowboard race. The event format, as the name implies, is that of a banked slalom. This race course changes a bit each year and is like nothing you’ve seen before.

This is a wild event which is sure to feature a few spills and some wild riding. Rollers, gaps, bumps and jumps are just a few of the sculpted features that keep racers on edge. The challenging course pushes racers physically and mentally.

Competition heats up over the weekend as racers become familiar with the course and conditions. There is prize money and awards up for grabs. This event attracts many of the area’s best all-around riders. Skiers and boarders look forward to this event each year as competition continually heats up.

As the event has matured over the years the course has become more exciting and refined. Doing some laps off of the Marmot Chair can provide some good viewing opportunities from the chair and along the course which snakes down the edge of Amphitheater. Be sure to take in some of the action over the weekend if you are out riding JHMR over the weekend.

Jackson Hole Opening 2016

Posted on: November 20th, 2016 by thcAdmin No Comments

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is opening on December 1st. The resort has been working hard to get it done! They were originally shooting for November 24th.

Mother Nature has been a bit stingy with the snow so far this season here in Teton County. October came on strong, with it being one of the wettest on record. November has warmed up considerably, with next to no precipitation.

As of November 16th, temperatures finally dropped, at least we can get snow from hoses. Consistently cold days have helped over the past week, with a little of the real deal falling as well.

Big thanks goes out to the snowmaking crew. Below is an image of the man made cloud enshrouding Apres Vous.

Closing Weekend at JHMR

Posted on: April 1st, 2014 by thcAdmin No Comments

It has been an amazing season here in Jackson. Being ranked #1 Ski Resort in North America certainly brought  folks to town. We were blessed with some amazing snowfall, that hasn’t really let up much since late January. Nearly 500″ of snow and locals are guessing over 500,00 skier days. Locals and visitors certainly got their share of face shots this year.

While skiing is wrapping up on this side of the Tetons, Grand Targhee Resort is still open for two more weeks. They will also be hosting a snowmobile hill climb on April 25th, 26th & 27th. It is called the Crazy Horse Hill Climb and will be the last scheduled race of the season for the RMSHA.

Snow King Mountain

Posted on: January 20th, 2014 by thcAdmin No Comments

Snow King Mountain, referred tolocally as “the legend,” or “the kaiser.” The cold temperatures that the valley has been enduring has created ideal snow making conditions. There is manmade powder out there! Check out Sow Tubing or Ice Climbing, if you are looking to get off of your skis for some fun.

Another Storm

Posted on: December 18th, 2012 by thcAdmin No Comments

December 18, 2012

Another storm has blanketed the Tetons. The upper mountain continues to provide outstanding ski conditions. It is still a littler thin down low, but continued snowmaking efforts have opened up additional trails.

The season was off to a slow start but Mother Nature has recently been kind to the Tetons. Lets hope December keeps the snow coming down and fills the rest of the mountain in. We will certainly need more terrain to keep the Holiday crowds occupied.

Grand Targhee has been receiving ample snowfall with each passing storm as well. Their higher base elevation lends to slightly deeper base depths and a greater percentage of total terrain open.

Snow King’s opening efforts continue to be hampered by warmer valley temperatures and little snowfall at lower elevations.
