Ski Season 2012/2013 is Underway

Lift serviced skiing kicked off Friday with the opening of Grand Targhee Resort. They reportedly opened 1500 acres to the riding public. Hundreds of skiers and snowboarders rejoiced under beautiful skies to take in their first lift served turns of the season. People gave good reviews of the early season snow conditions. Targhee’s higher base elevation and gentler slopes certainly lends itself to providing more consistent conditions than many ski resorts.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort opened with the Werner run on Apres Vous. A storm was slowly pushing into the valley throughout most of the day which made for high winds. Temperatures did remain fairly warm keeping the snow soft and somewhat creamy. Most people’s only gripe was the lack of terrain, which is not so unusual for this time of year. More snow is in the forecast, which should enable the resort to open more terrain as coverage increases.
